New Delhi Electricity Rates Increased: At present, there are most of the people who would be waiting for electricity to become cheaper. But now you are going to get a big shock. Actually this state government has increased the electricity rates. Yes, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited has increased the electricity rates significantly. This time electricity rates have increased by about 5 to 7 percent. An official has informed the people about this.

Let us tell you that the new electricity rates will become effective from October 1, 2023. TSECL, once a profit-making government entity, has incurred a total loss of Rs 280 crore in the financial year 2021-22 and Rs 80 crore in the first three months of this current financial year. Earlier, TSECL had changed the electricity rates in 2014. However, there are about 10 lakh electricity consumers in the north-eastern state.

The decision was taken after much consideration

TSECL Managing Director Debashish Sarkar told PTI that the electricity tariff has been increased by 5 to 7 per cent only after considering everything and in consultation with the Tripura State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC).

Reason for increasing electricity prices

Now the question arises that why has the electricity prices increased? The main reason for this is the increase in the price of gas. In the last few years, there has been an increase of about 196 percent.

The government gave information about this

Regarding this, the government said that earlier TSECL had spent Rs 15 crore every month on gas prices to run the gas-based power production units. But now it has increased to Rs 35 crore to Rs 40 crore monthly. In such a situation, there is no other option except increase in electricity prices.
