Have you ever noticed that when you pull your hair a little, it breaks? It tells about your hair elasticity. Where some people's hair breaks on pulling, and then after pulling the hair of some people, it returns to its original structure.
It's kind of like an elastic band. When your hair is strong, it has better elasticity and tends to spring back into shape even after being pulled out. On the other hand, the elasticity of weak hair is very less and such hair is very fragile and prone to breakage. However, many factors affect your hair's elasticity. So, today in this article we are telling you in detail about hair elasticity-
What is hair elasticity?
Hair elasticity describes how long a single strand of hair can stretch without losing its original shape and structure. It tells about the overall strength of your hair. Generally, there are three types of hair elasticity – high elasticity, medium elasticity and low elasticity.
High elasticity hair does not break quickly and can be stretched for a long time. It looks more bouncy. On the other hand, low-elasticity hair breaks immediately after slight stretching. This type of hair is usually very dry, thin and weak.
Hair elasticity is affected by these things
- Your hair's moisture and protein levels primarily determine its elasticity. When the hair lacks moisture and has low protein levels, the hair becomes weak and loses its elasticity. Many factors weaken hair elasticity-
- We often get colour treatments done. But the harmful chemicals present in it damage the hair proteins. Due to this hair elasticity is reduced.
- Excessive use of heat styling tools and blow dryers is also not considered good for hair.
- When your hair is exposed to excessive exposure to harmful UV radiation and pollution, it also leads to low hair elasticity.
- The friction caused when the hairbrush is used incorrectly also leads to low hair elasticity.
Improve hair elasticity like this
- If you have low hair elasticity, then you can adopt some easy and small tips to improve it-
- Do deep conditioning regularly. This increases the moisture level in the hair.
- Do not get chemical hair treatment done on your hair. Instead of this, you can naturally colour the hair.
- Do not style the hair with the help of heat styling tools. This causes hair damage.
- Step out of the house only wearing a scarf or using SPF spray. With this, you can protect your hair from sun damage.
- Do not use hot water to wash your hair. Instead, use lukewarm water while shampooing. After the hair wash, rinse the hair with cold water.
- Use a wide-tooth comb or brush to detangle your hair. Also, don't pull the hair too hard.
- Avoid using too much shampoo. Also, opt for a mild herbal shampoo instead of harsh chemicals like sulfates or sulfonates.
