The cases of mosquito-borne diseases are increasing rapidly in many states of the country including the capital Delhi-NCR. These days, an increase in the number of patients is being seen in the hospitals of Delhi. These days, most of the people coming to the OPD hospitals with complaints of fever are being diagnosed as dengue-chikungunya cases, although most of the patients are recovering with normal treatment and going back home. Doctors say that it is important for all people to pay attention to the symptoms of these diseases in time and get treatment.
Health experts say that many symptoms of dengue and malaria can be similar, hence confusion has been seen among people regarding these. Let us know what are the conditions due to these diseases in the country and how can they be differentiated.
Increasing cases of dengue and chikungunya
Dengue and chikungunya are both viral diseases spread by the bite of Aedes mosquitoes. Aedes aegypti causes dengue infection, while Aedes albopictus causes chikungunya. Not only this, you can get infected with both dengue and chikungunya simultaneously.
Health experts say that compared to previous years, the risk of these mosquito-borne diseases is higher this year, the main reason for which could be the unseasonal rains this time. Doctors say that at present the number of dengue patients in Delhi hospitals is more than that of chikungunya. Let us know how these two diseases can be differentiated.
First, know about dengue
Dengue, also known as break-bone fever, is a viral infection spread by mosquitoes, which bite more during the day. People who have dengue may have high fever along with headache, body aches, nausea, and skin rash. In case of severe disease of dengue, hemorrhagic fever may occur, which if not taken care of in time, there is a risk of blood platelet count decreasing rapidly, due to which you may have serious health complications.
Chikungunya problem
Like dengue, chikungunya fever is also spread by the bite of mosquitoes of the Aedes species. Both chikungunya and dengue have similar symptoms, including high fever as well as joint pain, and body aches. Apart from this, some people may also have swelling in joints, muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue, and skin rash in Chikungunya. Chikungunya symptoms often appear within 2 to 7 days of being bitten by an infected mosquito.
What is the difference between dengue and chikungunya?
Most of the symptoms of dengue and chikungunya are similar, but these two diseases are quite different. Dengue and chikungunya, although spread by the same type of mosquito, are caused by different viruses. Chikungunya causes more swelling and pain than dengue, whereas, in severe cases of dengue, the risk of problems like bleeding and breathing problems is higher. There is a risk of many types of long-term problems in both diseases.
Long-term cases of chikungunya can lead to chronic arthritis and neurological problems, while severe cases of dengue carry the risk of respiratory problems, organ failure, or shock. There is no specific treatment or vaccine to prevent either disease.
