Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh was arrested by ED i.e. Enforcement Directorate in the alleged liquor scam case in Delhi. After this, the court also gave his five-day remand to ED. In such a situation, the liquor policy of the Delhi government has once again come into discussion. This controversy has been going on for a long time, due to which Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia is also in jail. But do you know what is the difference between the new liquor policy of the Delhi Government and the old liquor policy that is currently applicable in Delhi? If not, then you can understand it better here. You can learn about this in the next slides...

The old liquor policy was already running in Delhi, but then the Delhi government came up with a new liquor policy. Under this, liquor was also sold in Delhi for some time, but then this policy was withdrawn and at present liquor is being sold in Delhi under the old policy.

What was in the new policy?
Actually, under the new liquor policy, private shopkeepers were given a lot of rights. In such a situation, these shopkeepers were fixing the rates of liquor as per their own. You might remember that a bottle was being given away for free with every purchase. On the other hand, dry days had also reduced considerably and liquor shops were opened in the evening even on the day of Holi.

Some changes were also made in the new liquor policy regarding import fees and VAT. However, there were no significant changes in the old and new policies regarding price. Also, there was not much difference in VAT between the two policies. At the same time, even after re-implementing the old liquor policy, the government has not made any changes and if there has been a change, then only the discount has been banned.

Did people get the benefits?
While in the new liquor policy, no free liquor bottle is being given to the people, on the other hand, in the old policy, customers were being given one liquor bottle for free.
