The new variant of Corona, JN.1, is being reported to be increasing in many countries of the world including India. According to media reports, in many other countries including China, crowding in hospitals has increased due to Corona, and cases of death among the infected are also being reported. If seen from India's perspective, the infection has been confirmed in an average of 500 people every day for the last 20 days.
According to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Thursday, the infection has been confirmed in 760 new people in the country. As of January 3, the JN.1 variant has spread to about 12 states of the country, increasing the total number of infected people to 541. The number of active cases of corona in the country is 4423.
Health experts say that the risk of infection is continuously increasing, due to which everyone should be careful. Given the increasing cases, the Center has asked the states and union territories to maintain constant monitoring of the infection. At present, two states, Kerala and Karnataka, have the highest number of infected cases.
Covid task force guidelines
Five deaths due to Covid have also been reported in the country in the last 24 hours, the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) said. 4-5 people are dying every day, although the problem of comorbidity is being seen in most of these people.
Given the danger of infection, the Covid Task Force has issued new guidelines for those with positive reports. It has been advised that people who test positive for Covid-19 should self-isolate for five days. Also, ensure that elders and comorbid people in the family wear masks indoors and maintain physical distance from the infected.
Follow protective measures seriously
To protect against the new Covid sub-variant JN.1, people with comorbidities and the elderly should avoid going to crowded places and wear masks when going out of the house, the task force said. Although there is no need to enforce these rules in public, as a safety precaution everyone should continue to follow Covid Appropriate Behavior.
Dr. Madhuri Kanitkar, Vice Chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and member of the task force, told the media, that the Covid situation is under control now, but we should remain alert for the next two weeks.
Kerala and Karnataka are the most affected states
Talking about the situation of Corona in the country, Kerala and Karnataka are the most affected states. Covid-19 infections in Karnataka increased by more than 75 percent to 260 on Wednesday. The positivity rate here is being recorded at 3.46 percent.
An audit by the state health department has found that the majority of deaths due to COVID-19 since December 15, 2023, have occurred due to comorbidities. Based on the study of 10 deaths, experts said that Covid is a serious pathogen only in those people who already have some chronic disease.
People with comorbidities should take special precautions
Task Force Chairman Dr. Raman Gangakhedkar has emphasized self-isolation for people with weak immunity. He said efficient strategies will be needed to protect those with comorbidities from infection. The symptoms of most of the infected are mild, but they can be COVID-19 carriers to other people, so everyone needs to follow infection prevention measures.
