This infection in the eyes can be of both bacterial or viral types. Doctors say that due to the floods and rains in the capital Delhi, the risk of this sudden eye disease has increased considerably. All people need to take special precautions regarding personal hygiene.

Due to the problem of conjunctivitis or pink eyes, there is a problem of redness, itching, and watery eyes. In most cases, its symptoms are mild, but in some cases, there can be a risk of taking a serious form.

Let us understand in detail about its cause and prevention from the health expert.
Infection cases are increasing in Delhi

We spoke to Dr. Shrey Srivastava, Intensive Care, Greater Noida, to understand the rise in cases of eye flu in the national capital. Dr. Shrey explains, in the last 10 days the cases of both common flu and eye flu are on the rise. There is a flood situation in many places in Delhi, as well as a lot of carelessness is being seen regarding personal hygiene, due to which the cases of eye flu have increased.

Dr. Shrey has also clarified the reasons for the rapidly increasing infection.
Can infection be caused even by seeing an infected person?

Dr Shrey explains eye flu can only be caused by close contact with an infected person such as sharing personal items, not taking care of hygiene, not cleaning the eyes properly, or touching the eyes with the same hand after touching a contaminated surface. There is no risk of infection without close contact.

It is a common misconception that eye flu can be spread by looking into someone's eyes. As long as you are not directly or indirectly exposed to eye discharge, there is no risk of infection.

Infection can occur on surfaces
As Dr. Shrey explains, the eye flu virus remains active on surfaces such as door handles, towels, or tissues, so it is essential to wash hands thoroughly after touching any such surface. The virus can spread rapidly due to overcrowded environments and close contact with infected persons, thus it becomes very important to take care of the methods of prevention.

Don't self medicate
If you are showing symptoms of eye flu, then contact a specialist about this and get treated. Do not use any over-the-counter medicines or eye drops on your own as they can increase your risk. Many other eye problems can have symptoms similar to eye flu, so it is important to find out the exact cause of the symptoms and get them treated.
