Meta-owned instant messaging app WhatsApp has finally ended free chat backup. Now WhatsApp users will have to pay for chat backup. WhatsApp has started it with beta users, although it has been discussed since last year.
Actually, WhatsApp has now started using users' Google Drive for backup. Earlier also only Google Drive was used but it was unlimited for chat backup now for chat backup only Google Drive storage will be used i.e. only in the 15 GB storage provided with a Gmail account, you can store your Google photos, drives, and WhatsApp chat backup work will have to be done. If your Gmail account has less storage and WhatsApp chat is also more, then you will have to buy money for storage. You will have to take Google's Google One plan.
WhatsApp is now also getting notifications for this from Meta. The notification read, “Back up your chats and media in your Google account storage. After installing WhatsApp on the new phone, you will be able to restore it.” This notification is currently available on Android beta version 2.24.3.21. You can also manage storage by going to Google Drive storage.
