Pregnancy is a very delicate phase in which women have to take special care of themselves. During this time, one has to walk carefully, one step at a time, so that both the mother and the child do not suffer any kind of harm. Now the question is, can pregnant women travel by plane? We talked about this with DrArchnaDhawan Bajaj Gynecologist, Nurture IVF. Let us know what his opinion about this is.
Can pregnant women travel by air?
According to expert ArchanaDhawan Bajaj, air travel can be done during pregnancy but doing so can be a very challenging experience. It completely depends on which trimester you are in and whether you have any complications. Experts say that the best time to travel is the second trimester. This is the time when the risk of complications is lowest. Any pregnant lady should avoid travelling in the first trimester. You should also not travel during the 32nd week. Apart from this, she also suggested that you should talk to your doctor before your flight to confirm whether it is safe to fly or not. If you have a long flight then you may suffer from deep vein thrombosis.
What should pregnant women keep in mind while travelling by air?
- If you are more than 28 weeks pregnant, carry your medical records and the medicines your doctor has advised you to take.
- Keep exercising on your seat.
- If you have a long flight then wear compression socks.
- Wear loose clothes.
- Keep yourself hydrated.
- Move around as often as possible.
- Do not lift heavy bags.
