Giloy is a popular Ayurvedic herb known to treat more than hundreds of ailments including chronic fever, flu, cold, hair loss and arthritis. The English translation of giloy from the Sanskrit word 'amrita' is the 'root of immortality'. Another name for this herb in English is Heart Leaved Moonseed and its botanical name is Tinospora cordifolia. Giloy stem is widely known for its antioxidant properties that fight free radicals and repair cell damage.

Medicinal properties of giloy

Giloy is considered to be one of the best remedies used to treat various types of fevers and conditions. The herb used extensively in Ayurvedic medicine has many health benefits. It is a powerhouse of antioxidants, which fight free radicals and thus reduce your risk of fatal diseases like cancer.

Sharing the information, the expert wrote in the caption, 'Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) commonly known as Giloy is also known as Amrita, ie the divine nectar of immortality. Guduchi is considered one of the most powerful herbs in Ayurveda. Due to its magical properties, it is showing promising results in fever, dengue, chikungunya, arthritis, viral fever, cough/cold, diabetes etc.'

He further wrote, 'It is also rejuvenating, immunity boosting, brain tonic and adaptogenic. It lowers stress levels, improves memory and boosts brain power. Use Giloy like this

If you have this plant in your home then you can use it easily.

  1. Fresh Leaves and Stems
  • Soak it overnight.
  • In the morning, boil it in 1 glass of water till it reduces to half.
  • Sieve and drink.

1. Dry form (Kwath)

  • Soak 1 part (10 grams) kwath (decoction) in 400 ml water overnight.
  • Boil it to 100 ml in the morning.
  • Filter it and drink it.
  • You can add jaggery for taste.
  • While boiling the decoction, basil leaves, turmeric and cloves can be added to it.

2. Giloy Powder

Just take 1 tsp of powder first thing in the morning with warm water/honey.

  1. Giloy / GuduchiGhanVati / SanshamaniVati
  • 2 tablets twice a day before meals.

3. Giloy juice

  • You can start with 10 ml of warm water daily in the morning 1 hour before a meal.
