Banana chips are a popular snack in many parts of the world, especially in South India. They are made by slicing green bananas thinly, deep-frying them until crispy, and then seasoning them with spices. Here's a recipe to make banana chips:
Ingredients:
- 4-5 raw (green) bananas
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/4 tsp red chilli powder (optional)
- Oil for deep frying
Instructions:
-
Peel the raw bananas and slice them thinly using a mandoline slicer or a sharp knife. Make sure the slices are uniform in thickness.
-
In a bowl, add sliced bananas, salt, turmeric powder, and red chilli powder (if using). Mix well and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
-
Heat oil in a deep pan or a kadhai over medium heat.
-
Once the oil is hot, add a few banana slices at a time to the oil. Do not overcrowd the pan.
-
Fry the banana slices on medium heat for 5-6 minutes until they turn golden brown and crispy. Make sure to stir occasionally to ensure even frying.
-
Once the banana slices are crispy, remove them from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain the excess oil on a paper towel.
-
Repeat the process with the remaining banana slices until all of them are fried.
-
Let the banana chips cool down to room temperature.
-
Store the banana chips in an airtight container for later consumption or serve them immediately as a snack.
