More than 12 lakh 32 page copies every semester. There is a fixed time of five to 10 minutes to check these. There is so much confusion in the wonderful process of digital evaluation that the students of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Uttar Pradesh, are busy every day, every month, every semester and throughout the year, sometimes with back papers, sometimes with rechecking and sometimes with carry over / special. They keep agitating regarding carry over. The university has not been able to come up with any solution to this yet. Students are worried because of average marking. They are not getting a proper hearing anywhere.

From social media to streets, from Raj Bhavan to AKTU campus, students are continuously agitating. The center of their problem is the result of carry over, average marking, failure of most of the students, demand for special carry over etc.

Many complaints of AKTU students

Students have also been complaining about not receiving their degree mark sheets on time. These students study in institutions from Sonbhadra to Greater Noida. There is no solution to these problems where they study, the place where the solution can be found is the campus of the University located in Lucknow. Students generally cannot enter here. The facts that come to light in the investigation of these problems can shock any conscious person.

First let's look at some figures. About three lakh students are registered in this university. These students study in about eight hundred educational institutions. Every semester the university receives more than 12 lakh copies of 32 pages each. Meaning, the responsibility of checking so many copies falls on the shoulders of the university.

Back paper or carryover, special carry over etc. copies are not included in this. The University has adopted an excellent and safe process for checking these copies. Any teacher checking the copy here cannot know which student's copy he is checking. Because the university removes the top pages, codes the copies afresh and sends its digital copy to the teachers.

Copy checking

A teacher can check maximum 100 copies in a day. Even if he spends at least five minutes in checking a hundred copies, it amounts to five hundred minutes. Means 8.33 hours. In digital evaluation, the examination department reserves the right to fix the minimum time for checking one copy. According to the track record that has come out so far, the time limit has been fixed for only five to ten minutes.

This means that the second copy will not be openly presented to the teacher before the time fixed by the examination department. This is also good, but this is the problem. A teacher gets two and a half thousand rupees for checking 100 copies. To be honest, it should take at least 32 minutes to read a copy of 32 pages and number it, even if one minute per page is taken. But, these teachers become powerful while checking the copies.

If the time for copying is fixed at five minutes, then five minutes is fixed, if it is fixed for eight minutes then the work of checking the copy is completed in eight minutes. If teachers check copies honestly, they can check only 16 to 20 copies in a day. For checking 20 copies, they will get a maximum of Rs 500. In such a situation, the emphasis is on checking as many copies as possible. Teachers from private colleges participate more in this. They get relatively little money as salary.

In such a situation, it proves to be a strong support for them. If even 50 copies are checked then at least Rs 1250 per day is assured. But, records show that those who come to check the copies are insisting on checking as much as possible. In an effort to test as many copies as possible in a short period of time, there is often not much difference in the numbers between a well-written copy and a very poorly written copy. As a result, the trend of average marking has started.

What did AKTU say?

The university's argument is that the new copy will not be opened until the stipulated time has passed. The argument is also that it is mandatory for the teacher to leave a mark of checking the copy on every page. Amidst all these good things, one important thing is that the ability of the teachers who are employed to check copies is also under question at times.

Teachers of colleges like seven old government engineering colleges, IET Lucknow, KNIT Sultanpur, BIET Jhansi generally take less interest in copy checking. They feel that it is a thankless job. This is directly affecting the students. They are worried. There is no one to listen to them. In the last one month, troubled students have traveled to Lucknow. He has met everyone from Raj Bhavan to University officials but relief is not visible yet.
