Parshuram Jayanti is celebrated every year on the Tritiya of Vaishakh Shukla Paksha. Lord Vishnu took the sixth incarnation as Parshuram on this date, hence Parshuram Jayanti is also celebrated along with Akshaya Tritiya. Apart from Parshuram Jayanti, this date has much other significance in Hinduism.

This year Parshuram Jayanti is falling on Saturday, 22 April. Lord Parshuram was born in a Brahmin clan. Despite being a Brahmin, he had the qualities of a Kshatriya. In today's article, we will learn some interesting facts about Lord Parshuram.

1. Chiranjeevi is Parshuram

Lord Parshuram was the fourth son among the five children of sage Jamadagni and Renuka. Parashurama is known as the supreme devotee of Lord Shiva. According to religious texts and Puranas, Lord Vishnu was born to destroy the injustice, unrighteousness and sins committed by the kings. He is one of the seven Chiranjeevi men who are still present on the earth.

2. Killed his mother

According to mythology and texts, once Parshuram's mother had committed a crime, due to which Parshuram's father sage Jamadagni ordered his sons to kill their mother, Renuka. Hearing the order, all the brothers of Parshuram refused to kill their mother, but Lord Parshuram obeyed his father and killed his mother.

3. He was also angry with Ganesha

According to GaneshaPurana, once Parshuram ji went to Mount Kailash to see Lord Bholenath, but Lord Ganesha stopped him from meeting him. Enraged by this, Lord Parshuram had broken one of Ganesha's teeth. The name Ekdant of Ganesh ji became popular after the tooth was broken.

4. Sudarshan Chakra handed over to Lord Krishna

In the Ramayana period, Lord Rama and Lakshmana had a dialogue with Parashurama when Parashurama came to the assembly in anger after Lord Rama broke his bow at Sita Swayamvara. After this, Lord Ram handed over his chakra to him while respecting him. The same Sudarshan Chakra was given back by Lord Parshuram to Shri Krishna in Dwapar Yuga.

5. Karna was cursed

Parshuram ji was knowledgeable about weapons. He has also taught many great warriors and great men. One of these disciples was also Karna, who obtained the knowledge of weapons by lying to Parshuram ji. When Parshuram ji came to know about Karna's lie, he cursed Karna and said that the same knowledge will be forgotten when needed, by the force of which you have gained knowledge. Hence during the Mahabharata war, Karna forgot the mantra while wielding the weapon and was killed by the Pandavas.
