The Indian Air Force was established on 8 October 1932 under British rule in undivided India. The Indian Air Force also participated in the Second World War, for which King George VI gave it the prefix 'Royal'. However, after the independence of India, when the country became a republic, this prefix was removed.

The theme of Indian Air Force Day 2024 has been kept as "Indian Air Force - Capable, Empowered, Atmanirbhar". Every year this day is celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm, with the aim of understanding and appreciating the contribution of the Air Force.

Achievements of the Indian Air Force
Since independence, the Indian Air Force has fought a total of five wars, four with Pakistan and one with China. The Indian Air Force played an important role in the Indo-Pak wars of 1948, 1965, 1971, and 1999. The Air Force also showed its prowess in the 1962 war with China.
