Some children are satisfied with coloring for hours or playing quietly with blocks for half a day. At the same time, some children are not able to sit quietly for even two minutes. These can also be symptoms of ADHD. There were frequent complaints from school about 12-year-old Rohan that he does not sit in one place and starts answering without listening to the teacher's questions. Both Rohan's parents are employed, so they are not able to understand him properly. To get rid of this problem, Rohan's mother Reena started working from home and found her son's behavior different. Now she was able to understand the complaints coming from the school. So when she took Rohan to the doctor, it was found that he was suffering from ADHD.

What is ADHD
ADHD means Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is one of the most common mental disorders affecting children. It is a neurodevelopmental disorder. A child suffering from this disease has symptoms of lack of focus, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Mostly it gets cured in childhood with some changes, but sometimes it remains active even till adulthood. In such a situation, timely diagnosis and proper management are very important for the development of the child. There are mainly three types of ADHD - combined presentation, hyperactive/impulsive presentation, and inattentive presentation.

When does this problem occur

The problem of ADHD is often seen in children up to pre-school or KG. In some children, this condition can become more serious in adolescence, and sometimes this problem also troubles adults. A child suffering from ADHD has symptoms of both inattention and hyperactivity. For example, taking other people's things without permission or interfering with their work. Also, not listening to others, putting only one's point of view, shouting without reason becomes their habit.

Signs for parents
The child is unable to concentrate on any task for a long time. Always full of excessive energy and unable to sit still. The child often starts his work but is unable to complete it. For example, while playing, he leaves one toy and runs towards another. The child may show problems while playing with others, such as quarreling with friends, not listening to them, or not following the rules of the game.

Management and medical treatment

ADHD can only be diagnosed by a qualified doctor or psychiatrist. For this, the doctor takes information about family history, information during pregnancy and delivery, early development of the child, education, social relations, and other health problems, so that it can be ascertained whether the problem is genetic or not. Then through this, he is taught the quality of self-control and positivity, so that the child becomes able to face social and educational problems.

Safe and supported environment

Dr. Om Prakash, Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences, Delhi, says, timely diagnosis and management of ADHD helps in the educational, social, and emotional development of children. If symptoms of ADHD appear in the child, then consult a specialist in time. Proper treatment and family support are very important for the child.

Parents and teachers play an important role in managing ADHD. Parents should encourage the positive aspects of the child and try to understand his behavior. Creating a stable and supportive environment plays an important role in increasing the confidence of the child. Teachers should create a structured and calm environment for children, where the child feels safe.
