Kolkata Business Family Deaths: The reason behind the Day family suicide case in Kolkata has been revealed. Due to financial crisis, this family of 6 members had planned suicide.
Kolkata Business Family Deaths: In the 'Kolkata Day Family Suicide Case' which has been making headlines across the country for the last two weeks, the police have found out the reason why the family planned to commit mass suicide. Police found out from the statements of the surviving members of the Day family and investigation that the family decided to take this step due to financial constraints.
In their investigation, the police found that the Day brothers had taken a loan of 15 crores from 6 different banks and financial institutions. Apart from this, they had also borrowed 4 crores from some people. They had mortgaged their Tangara house and factory. They had a property in Bolpur, which they were trying to sell too. The jewellery in the house was also mortgaged to raise 19 lakh rupees. Jewelleries were mortgaged to pay salaries to the workers. There was another property too, which was also mortgaged.
The police found that the Day brothers had also withdrawn their trade licence from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) last year and shut down their silk export business in Bolpur. Investigations revealed that bad days had started for the Day family much earlier but the financial crisis intensified from December 2023. This situation arose due to the decline in exports across Europe and the exit of some of their old vendors and partners. However, despite the continuous losses, the Day family had not cut down on their expenses.
What is the whole matter?
Pranay Dey lived in Atal Sur Lane in Tangra with his wife Sudeshna and son Pratip Dey. His younger brother Prasun Kumar Dey also lived in the same house with his wife Romi and daughter Priyamvada. Due to financial constraints, Pranay Dey first planned a mass suicide of the entire family on February 10. He told this to his younger brother Prasun. Both the brothers also shared this decision with their wives.
On the evening of 17 February, blood pressure and sleeping pills were mixed in the kheer. The next day Prasun's daughter Priyamvada died of an overdose but the rest survived. On 18 February, the four adults decided to commit suicide by cutting their wrists. The women in the house could not do this, so Prasun Dey first cut the wrists of his wife Romi and later that of his sister-in-law Sudeshna.
After this, he moved to kill his nephew Pratip but the elder brother changed the plan and said that he would commit suicide by crashing the car. All three people left in the car at night and crashed the car on EM bypass. However, all three people survived this accident. Currently, all three are undergoing treatment.
