Field Marshal: The highest ceremonial rank in the military
The highest rank in the Indian Army is that of Field Marshal . The rank of Field Marshal is higher than the rank of General in the army . You must have heard about Sam Manekshaw who was in the rank of Field Marshal in the Indian Army. He was the first officer of the Indian Army to achieve this highest rank. The special thing is that there have been only two Field Marshals in the history of the Indian Army so far. Field Marshal is a five-star rank and the highest ceremonial post in the army. It is important to note that this is a ceremonial and wartime rank awarded for distinguished services under exceptional circumstances.
General: Rank of Army Chief
After Field Marshal, the second highest active post in the army is that of the General who is also called Chief of Army Staff (COAS) . Currently General Upendra Dwivedi is the Chief of the Indian Army who has played an important role in military operations against Pakistan. The post of General leads the Indian Army and is considered the highest active post.
