Italian PM Giorgia Meloni: A judicial investigation has begun against Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in her country. Meloni is accused of releasing a Libyan police officer arrested in Italy. This police officer was arrested following an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Investigation is being done on these allegations
Let us tell you that an investigation is being conducted against Georgia Meloni on charges of misusing the country's government funds and helping the criminal. In fact, last week, a Libyan police officer Najim was released a few days after his arrest in Turin city of Italy. The police officer was sent home on a government plane. In such a situation, the ICC has sought an answer from Meloni regarding the matter. The ICC says that they were not given any information about this.
What did ICC say?
The ICC says that Elmasri Najim has been accused of sexual violence, rape, murder and torture. A warrant was sent against him to other member countries including Italy on 18 January 2025. The court also informed about the actual time of Najim's entry into Europe. The ICC says that at that time it had reminded Italy that if it was facing difficulty in cooperating with the warrant, then it should contact it without delay.
What did Meloni say?
In her Facebook post, Meloni has talked about putting her under judicial investigation. She said that facing investigation in Italy is not proof of any guilt. She is also not obliged to resign. Meloni said in her post, 'I am neither going to be blackmailed nor am I going to be afraid. Perhaps this is the reason why I am disliked by those who do not want Italy to change and become better.' Meloni further said, 'I am confident that this judicial investigation has been initiated by lawyer Luigi Li Gotti, who last week filed a complaint against the release of Najim and the use of a government plane to send him back to Tripoli.'
