This Indian Premier League IPL 2023 is going to start on March 30, 2023, in whose first match Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings will compete, along with this match some new rules are also going to be entered in this season. One of the rules to be implemented in this new season is the impact player, which was first tried during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year. Under this rule, each team will give the names of four additional players in the team seat and they can replace any one of these players during their batting or bowling. That is, the Indian batsman can get an outside bowler at the time of bowling by batting first.

* The role of all-rounders will decrease:

Delhi's coach, however, does not seem to be much impressed with this rule and believes that the importance of all-rounders will be significantly reduced by this new rule. Recently, during the media interaction of Delhi Capitals, Ponting was questioned about this new rule, on which Ricky Ponting has expressed the possibility of reducing the role of the all-rounder. The Australian veteran has speculated that the teams can field bowling heavy playing XI in the betting and then change one of the players as per the need and in such a situation, the chances of all-rounder Roko getting a place in the playing XI will be very less due to this rule. Ricky Ponting believes that if another all-rounder is likely to get a chance to field only on the ability to feed as a pure batsman-bowler.

* Had it been known before the auction:

When talking to Ricky Ponting, he has also tried to draw attention to an important point that the teams came to know about this rule only after the auction. The players' auction for the IPL 2023 season was held in December 2022. Ricky Ponting has admitted that if the teams had come to know about this rule before the auction, they would have adopted a different strategy to buy players, but this rule came to know only after the auction.
