Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was on Wednesday fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate in their IPL 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings. IPL said in the press release – Rajasthan Royals have been fined for slow over-rate in the 17th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday.
Rajasthan's first win in Chepauk after 2008
Captain Sanju Samson was fined Rs 12 lakh since this was the team's first offense relating to minimum over-rate offenses under the IPL Code of Conduct, the release said. However, this fine might mean nothing more than a caution for Samson as his team won against Chennai at their home ground after 15 years. Rajasthan won the last match at Chepauk in Chennai in 2008. Chennai needed five runs to win off the last ball and Dhoni was on strike. However, Sandeep Sharma conceded just one run.
After the match, Captain Samson said – Credit should be given to our bowlers. The bowlers kept their cool in the end and bowled well. We also took many important catches. I don't have good memories in Chepauk, I have never won here and wanted to win today. The ball was gripping and so we brought Zampa in as an impact player. With Rituraj out, we had a chance to make good use of a powerplay and thought if we finish the powerplay without conceding too many runs, we have spinners who can stop Chennai from scoring runs. The win took Rajasthan to the top of the IPL 2023 points table with three wins from four matches.
