IPL 2025: Karun Nair Fires Back After Heated Moment with Bumrah—“If He’s the Best, I’ll Play the Best!”

Delhi Capitals may have lost their first match of IPL 2025 to Mumbai Indians by 12 runs, but it was the Karun Nair vs. Jasprit Bumrah face-off that stole the spotlight at Arun Jaitley Stadium.

What began as a casual on-field collision turned into a tense exchange, as India’s star pacer and Delhi’s returning hero found themselves in a fiery mid-match moment.

The Flashpoint: Collision & Confrontation

It all kicked off when Nair, who was in sublime touch, accidentally collided with Bumrah while running between the wickets. Although Nair quickly apologized, Bumrah wasn't pleased and confronted him during the time-out. Cameras caught a visibly upset Bumrah speaking to Nair, who stood his ground. The situation escalated briefly before Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya stepped in to calm things down.

Karun’s Calm but Bold Response

In the post-match press conference, Karun Nair chose his words carefully—yet made his stance clear.

“Bumrah is the best bowler in the world right now, no doubt. But I was in flow. I knew where I wanted to hit, and I backed myself,” Nair said.
“If he’s the best, then I’ve got to play my best.”

A Comeback Worth Noticing

Returning to the IPL after three years, Karun made a thunderous impact as an Impact Player—scoring a blistering 89 off just 40 balls, including 26 runs off 9 balls from Bumrah himself. Notably, this was his first IPL half-century in seven years, reminding everyone of the talent that once scored a Test triple hundred for India.
