Instagram Supervision Tool: A new tool for parents is coming to Instagram.

Instagram Supervision Tool: If your children are hooked to Instagram all day , you'll now be able to monitor their online activity. Instagram has announced a new supervision tool that will allow parents to monitor what their children are viewing on Instagram, including what's appearing in their feed, reels, and Explore sections. This supervision tool will only work on teen accounts. The company said in a statement that this tool will help parents understand the teen Instagram algorithm and learn about topics their children are interested in.

Why was this feature needed?

Meta explained that this feature is designed to help families understand why certain content is being shown to their children on Instagram. If a teen user is particularly interested in topics like sports, music, and photography, this tool will provide parents with information about these categories. This tool builds on the "Your Algorithm" tool introduced last year. The older tool allowed users to customize their algorithm to some extent.

Parents will receive a notification when a new category is added.

If a teen user adds a new category to their interests, a notification will be sent to their parents. This will help them understand why content from a different category has suddenly appeared in their child's feed. The new supervision tool begins rolling out today and will be available first to English-language users. Reports suggest that this feature will also be launched in India.

A tool will also come to monitor AI

In addition to monitoring Instagram activity, the company recently launched another tool to monitor how kids are using AI . This tool has been rolled out for Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger as well. It includes a new Insights tab where parents can see the topics their kids have asked the AI about. It will include data from the recent seven days, and instead of questions, it will list the topics teen users have interacted with the AI about.
