Sania Mirza: At present, the visas of many Pakistanis have been cancelled and they have been sent back to their country this decision was taken after the big terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Many Pakistanis also had long term visas to stay in India but all of them were cancelled.

Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza was married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. However, even after marriage, Sania's citizenship remained Indian and she continued to play tennis for India. Both Sania and Shoaib have also got divorced.

Sania lives in Dubai and Shoaib lives in Pakistan. Amidst all this, the biggest topic of discussion is which country's citizenship does Sania Mirza's son Izhan have. His father comes from Pakistan, so does Izhan have Pakistani citizenship?

Shoaib Malik once said that his son will neither be a citizen of India nor of Pakistan. Although the reference was made to the UAE, this is not possible. The UAE government does not give permanent citizenship to citizens of other countries. One can stay there for a long time with a golden visa. After living there for 30 years, one can apply for a UAE visa. Apart from this, citizenship in the UAE can be obtained after marrying a citizen of the UAE. If either the mother or the father is Emirati, then the child can get citizenship. This is not the case with Sania.

Dual citizenship is recognized in Pakistan. People there keep passports of other countries apart from Pakistan, but there is no such provision in the Indian constitution. There is provision for single citizenship in India. Passport of other countries cannot be kept. Here, in the matter of second passport, there is an example of singer Adnan Sami. He came from Pakistan and became a citizen of India and after giving up the Pakistani passport, he got Indian citizenship.

To get citizenship of another country, one has to give up the Indian passport. The situation about Izhan's citizenship is not clear at the moment. However, he was born in India. A person born in India after 1 July 1987 will be considered an Indian citizen but either the mother or the father must have Indian citizenship. Here Sania has Indian citizenship, so Izhan gets this qualification.

There is also a condition in this that the parents have to register the child in the Indian Embassy within one year of the child's birth. In this too, citizenship can be granted only after fulfilling several conditions, the most important of which is living in India for 7 years. The situation regarding Izhan's citizenship is not clear yet, but since Sania has Indian citizenship, Izhan becomes eligible for Indian citizenship because he was born in Hyderabad.

Citizenship can be cancelled under action if one comes to India illegally and acquires citizenship. Apart from this, citizenship can be cancelled if one has a passport of another country. Citizenship can also be cancelled for terrorist activities and anti-national activities.
