Indian Army Strikes Terror Targets in Shoaib Malik’s Hometown, Sania Mirza Reacts: “This Is Our Country”

In a powerful counterstrike following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 innocent tourists, the Indian Army and Air Force launched joint airstrikes on May 6–7, destroying terrorist hideouts deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POJK)—including Sialkot, the hometown of former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.

Strike Hits Close to Home

Sialkot, located in Punjab, Pakistan, is a city famous for its sports industry and for producing prominent cricketers, including Shoaib Malik. However, this time, it came under the radar for a different reason—being linked to terror activities targeting India. The Indian Army targeted and flattened several terrorist launchpads and safe houses that were reportedly active in the region.

Sania Mirza Breaks Her Silence

After the strikes, Sania Mirza, Indian tennis legend and Shoaib Malik’s former wife, shared a strong message on social media. Without directly naming anyone, she praised India's resolute response and shared a post featuring an image from the Indian Army's official press conference, writing:

“The message given through this very powerful picture tells well that our country is like this.”

Why That Photo Matters

The image Sania shared showed Colonel Sofia Qureshi of the Indian Army and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh of the Indian Air Force—two female officers leading the military’s press briefing on the strikes. This was symbolic not just of India’s military strength, but also its gender and religious unity, particularly in the wake of the Pahalgam attack where terrorists had selectively targeted based on religion.

Sania’s message aligned with this symbolism—a statement of national solidarity, despite her past association with Malik and Pakistan.

The Bigger Message

India’s decisive strikes across the Line of Control, including cities like Muzaffarabad, Bahawalpur, and Sialkot, were not just a military action, but also a clear geopolitical signal. By involving high-ranking women officers and receiving public support from influential figures like Sania Mirza, India showcased unity, strength, and zero tolerance for terrorism.
