India Sets New Record: ₹2 Lakh Crore Worth of Smartphones Exported in FY25, Becomes Global Electronics Powerhouse

India’s smartphone exports have hit an all-time high, reaching a massive ₹2 lakh crore in FY25—a 55% jump compared to the previous year—making smartphones the top exported commodity from the country. The data was released by the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) on Friday.

The boom not only underscores India's rising dominance in global electronics but also highlights the success of the government's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which has played a pivotal role in turning India into a global manufacturing hub.

Massive Growth in Production

India's total mobile phone production has also surged, growing from ₹4.22 lakh crore in FY24 to ₹5.25 lakh crore in FY25. According to ICEA Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo, this transformation showcases India’s fast-growing capabilities in the electronics sector.

“The PLI scheme is helping India scale, attract global investments, and integrate into global value chains. This is a new era for Indian electronics,” said Mohindroo.

Global Giants Leading the Charge

The export surge is driven by tech giants like Apple and Samsung, who have rapidly expanded manufacturing operations in India. The strategic shift comes amid changes in global trade dynamics, such as the reciprocal tariff measures introduced under former US President Donald Trump, which opened up new avenues for Indian electronics in global markets—especially the US.

India’s Global Electronics Ambitions

ICEA emphasized that India is now positioning itself as a reliable and strategic manufacturing partner for major global markets.

“Our vision is to make India a go-to destination for electronics manufacturing worldwide,” Mohindroo stated.

This historic milestone cements India’s position as not just a regional player, but a serious global contender in electronics manufacturing and exports.
