Why is the IT Department Sending Notices?
The Income Tax Department has launched an investigation campaign to address irregularities in Tax Deducted at Source (TDS). More than 40,000 individuals and companies will receive notices for either failing to deduct TDS or not depositing the deducted TDS/TCS.
🔍 Key reasons behind the action:
- The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has detected multiple TDS discrepancies.
- A 16-point action plan has been implemented to catch defaulters.
- Data analysts have prepared a list of suspected tax evaders for further scrutiny.
📩 Taxpayers receiving notices will have the chance to rectify errors before penalties are imposed.
Strict Measures Against Repeat Violators
📢 The Income Tax Department is intensifying action against taxpayers who frequently violate TDS rules.
💰 Companies under scrutiny for inconsistencies in TDS deduction and advance tax payments.
⚠️ Taxpayers must verify TDS details in Form 26AS & AIS to avoid penalties.
How to Correct TDS Errors Before March 31
📌 If a bank or company has incorrectly deducted TDS, the taxpayer has until March 31, 2025, to correct it.
📜 Those whose TDS details are missing in Form 26AS or Annual Information Report (AIS) can also fix the issue before the deadline.
✅ Steps to correct TDS mistakes:
- Contact the concerned bank/institution and request corrections.
- Ensure Form 26AS and AIS reflect the correct TDS deduction.
- Use the updated Form-24Q & Part-B of Form-16 (for Q4 of FY 2024-25) on the TRACE portal.
⏳ TDS correction window:
- Maximum period for correction: 6 years from the financial year of the error.
- Example: Errors in FY 2018-19 must be corrected before March 31, 2025.
🚨 Without correcting the TDS return, deductions cannot be claimed!
Final Warning for Taxpayers
📢 Non-compliance may lead to penalties, additional tax liabilities, or legal action.
✅ Verify TDS records, correct errors, and respond to notices promptly.
