India is expected to witness a mix of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, and intense heat on June 20 as multiple weather systems remain active across different regions of the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its latest weather forecast, warning of very heavy rain in several northeastern and eastern states, while parts of North India could experience thunderstorms and dust storms.
At the same time, heatwave conditions are likely to persist in some regions despite the gradual advancement of the southwest monsoon.
Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Likely in Several States
According to the IMD, parts of Northeast India are expected to receive significant rainfall over the next 24 hours.
The weather department has issued a warning for Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim, where isolated places may witness very heavy rainfall. Continuous downpours could lead to waterlogging, localized flooding, and disruptions in daily activities.
Apart from these regions, heavy rainfall is also expected in:
- Arunachal Pradesh
- Gangetic West Bengal
- Odisha
- Kerala
- Tamil Nadu
- Puducherry
- Karaikal
- Nagaland
- Manipur
- Mizoram
- Tripura
Residents in these states have been advised to stay updated with local weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
Thunderstorm Alert for Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttarakhand
Weather conditions are likely to remain unstable across several northern states.
The IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds in Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttarakhand. Wind speeds may reach between 40 and 50 kmph, potentially causing minor disruptions and reduced visibility in some areas.
People are advised to remain indoors during thunderstorm activity and avoid taking shelter under isolated trees or near electric poles.
Strong Winds Expected in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh
Parts of central India are also likely to experience turbulent weather.
Western Madhya Pradesh may witness thunder squalls with wind speeds reaching 50 to 60 kmph. Similar conditions are expected over eastern Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha, where thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds could affect normal activities.
Several districts in Uttar Pradesh are also likely to experience lightning and strong winds as weather systems interact with advancing monsoon currents.
Dust Storm Warning for Rajasthan
Western Rajasthan could face dust storms along with strong winds on Saturday.
Meteorologists have warned that blowing dust may significantly reduce visibility in some areas, particularly along highways and open stretches. Travelers and commuters have been advised to exercise caution while driving.
The possibility of sudden weather changes may also affect outdoor activities and local transport operations.
Hailstorm Possibility in Himalayan Regions
The weather department has also forecast hailstorm activity in higher-altitude regions.
Parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and adjoining hill areas may experience thunderstorms accompanied by hail, creating potentially hazardous conditions for travelers and residents.
Weather Outlook for Bihar, Jharkhand and Southern India

In southern India, several states are likely to remain under the influence of unstable weather conditions.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph are expected across parts of:
- Telangana
- Andhra Pradesh
- Kerala
- Interior Karnataka
Residents have been advised to take precautions during outdoor activities and monitor local weather updates.
Heatwave Conditions to Continue in Some Regions
While rainfall activity is increasing in many parts of the country, some areas are still likely to experience extreme heat.
According to IMD, heatwave conditions may continue in isolated pockets of:
- Bihar
- Eastern Uttar Pradesh

Authorities have advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.

Fishing activities have been discouraged in parts of the Arabian Sea near the Somalia and Oman coasts. Similar warnings have been issued for areas of the Bay of Bengal, including the Gulf of Mannar and the Andaman Sea.
With multiple weather systems influencing different parts of the country, June 20 is expected to bring a combination of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, dust storms, and heatwave conditions. Citizens are advised to follow official weather bulletins and take appropriate safety measures based on local forecasts.
