IMD Alert: Heavy Rainfall and Storm Warnings Issued Across Multiple States, Including Delhi-NCR

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert, predicting heavy rainfall and stormy conditions in several states, including the Delhi-NCR region. According to the IMD, storms with wind speeds reaching up to 40 km per hour are expected in certain areas.
Weather Forecast for Northern and Northeastern States
The IMD reports that Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning on February 19 and 20. Some areas might continue to witness these weather conditions until February 23.
A cyclonic circulation has developed in the lower troposphere over northeast Assam, leading to scattered light rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh from February 19 to 24. Additionally, rainfall is anticipated across Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, West Bengal, and Sikkim over the next seven days.
Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Expected
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura may experience thunderstorms and lightning on February 19 and 20, with wind speeds ranging between 30 and 40 km per hour.
Meanwhile, a western disturbance is positioned as a cyclonic circulation over Jammu and its surrounding regions, extending towards southwest Rajasthan. This system is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall, along with thunder and lightning, in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from February 19 to 20. Certain areas may continue experiencing these conditions until February 23.
Rainfall Predictions for North and Central India
According to the IMD, parts of eastern Rajasthan may receive scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning on February 19. Additionally, light rain is expected in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on February 19 and 20.
Western Uttar Pradesh is likely to experience strong winds on February 20, while similar conditions are anticipated in western Rajasthan on February 19. Wind speeds may reach up to 40 km per hour during these periods.
Weather Outlook for Eastern and Central Regions
A trough is currently positioned in the lower troposphere from Jharkhand to southern Odisha. Under its influence, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha are expected to experience scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning between February 19 and 22.
Temperature Trends Across the Country
The IMD predicts a rise in minimum temperatures by approximately 2-3 degrees Celsius over northwest India in the next 48 hours, followed by a drop of 2-3 degrees Celsius in the subsequent two days. No major fluctuations in minimum temperatures are expected across the rest of the country over the next 4-5 days.
