What are the symptoms of food allergy?

According to Mayoclinic, if symptoms like itching or hives on the skin, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, stomach pain, vomiting or diarrhea, dizziness or fainting appear within a few hours of eating something, then it could be a food allergy. You can do some tests to identify it. For this (Skin Prick Test) is done. In this, a small amount of the suspected food item is applied on any part of the body and the skin is pricked lightly. If there is swelling or redness there, it could be a sign of allergy. Apart from this, a blood test is done. In this, the amount of immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibody is measured, which indicates an allergic reaction.

Which doctor to consult?

According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) , to treat food allergies, you should consult both an allergist and a dietitian. These doctors will identify the allergy and will also prepare a diet chart for you according to the problem.
