In the summer season, experts have warned that packaged juices can be dangerous for health and have low nutritional content. It is being advised to avoid them, as their regular consumption can have a negative impact on health. National Nutrition Week, which is celebrated every year from September 1 to 7, is based on the theme of 'nutritious diet for all' this year.

Packaged juices increase the risk of diabetes

Packaged juices usually have less fruit pulp and high sugar content, which can cause diabetes and obesity. Apart from this, processed juices lack fiber, vitamins and minerals, which are essential for the body. Dr. Shweta Gupta, Unit Head-Dietetics, Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, told IANS, "Packaged juices are not healthy at all. They have high sugar content and low nutrients. The amount of fruit pulp is low, while the amount of artificial flavor, stabilizer, sugar/sweetener/fructose syrup is generally very high."

Benefits of drinking fresh juice: Advice to avoid packaged juice

Health expert Dr. Shweta Gupta has advised to eat fresh fruits, especially instead of packaged juice. This is because when the juice is prepared, the pulp of the fruit is removed from it, along with the important vitamins, minerals and fiber present in it. Therefore, eating fresh fruits provides more nutrition to the body, which is not available from packaged juice.

Risk of weight gain and other health problems due to packaged juice

Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Saggu, Director, Minimal Access, GI and Bariatric Surgery at CK Birla Hospital, Delhi, told IANS that consumption of packaged juice can lead to weight gain, insulin resistance and other health problems. Instead, fresh fruits provide a balanced mix of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, which are beneficial for the body.

The best solution is to avoid packaged juices altogether

Dr Sukhwinder Singh Saggu says, "Although packaged juices are often touted as healthy brands, they contain added sugar and lack essential nutrients that whole fruits provide. Moreover, the ingredients used in packaged juices often destroy beneficial enzymes, reducing the quality of the product." So, if you want to maintain a healthy diet, it is best to avoid packaged juices altogether. Instead, consume fresh fruits or fresh juices, as they provide better nutrition to your body.
