Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has again been fined, due to which he had to face a ban in the last match. He has been fined Rs 12 lakh due to slow over rate during the match played against Gujarat Titans on Saturday. According to the official statement, this is his team's first case of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over-rate. For this reason, this financial penalty was imposed on Pandya.

IPL 2025: In his first match of the 18th season, Hardik was again surrounded by the same issue. He started the last over late. Due to which he is facing a penalty of match fee this time. According to the official release issued by the IPL, this is the first offense of this season for Hardik and MI, so he is being let off with a fine of only 12 lakhs. Earlier, Hardik Pandya did not take part in the first match of Mumbai Indians, as he was suspended due to slow over rate against Lucknow Super Giants in the last match of IPL 2024.

Before the start of IPL 2025, the governing council of the league had made changes to the terms of the game. According to the new rule, the captain will not be banned. In its place, a new code of conduct related to slow over rate was also included. Under this new rule, a demerit point system and suspension points have been implemented, which will be valid for 36 months. There has been no comment from Hardik Pandya on the fine imposed this time. Hardik Pandya has already expressed his opinion on the ban. He had said that the ban imposed on him due to slow over rate was unfortunate, as his team had bowled the last over only 2-2.5 minutes late. He also clarified that whether to continue this rule till the next season or not, it depends on the higher officials.
