The Gokyo Valley has six main glacial lakes, located at altitudes ranging from 4,700 to 5,050 meters. They are considered the world's highest freshwater lake system. These include Longpong (4,650 meters), Taboche Tsho (4,690 meters), Dudh Pokhri/Gokyo Cho (4,750 meters), Thonak Tsho (4,834 meters), Ngozumpa Tsho (4,950 meters), and Gyazumpa Tsho (5,050 meters). These lakes are a deep turquoise color, caused by minerals formed by melting ice.
