A WhatsApp message that began as a desperate plea for help ended with a cryptic goodbye. Now, a college student from Bihar has gone missing, and his family is left terrified, with no trace of him even after ransom demands were paid.
Abducted on His Way to College
Rakesh Kumar, a BA student at Mahadev Singh College and resident of Angari village under Jagdishpur police station, Bhagalpur, went missing on the morning of April 7. He left home around 8 AM for college but never returned.
Later, his brother-in-law received a chilling call and message from Rakesh’s phone saying, “I have been kidnapped. They have taken ₹15,000 from my mobile and are demanding more. Please save me.”
Ransom Demanded Over WhatsApp
The abductors used Rakesh's phone to communicate and demanded ₹30,000 via WhatsApp. When the brother-in-law requested a live location or to speak directly with the kidnappers, they refused, replying, “Location blocked… He is saying he’ll be released after the payment.”
The kidnappers claimed to have taken ₹15,000 from Rakesh’s UPI account already and were asking for more. Out of fear, the brother-in-law first sent ₹5,000, then later transferred another ₹30,000.
Then came the haunting message:
“Go away, I have left your child. Bye-bye.”
But Rakesh Is Still Missing
Despite the message, Rakesh never returned home. His phone is now switched off, and no further contact has been made. All calls and messages since then have gone unanswered. The money was transferred to Rakesh’s own UPI ID, suggesting the kidnappers used his phone and accounts directly.
The family, devastated and confused, rushed to Tatarpur Police Station to report the incident. Rakesh’s father is a vegetable vendor, and his elder brother works as a laborer out of state.
Police Investigation Underway
Police have begun scanning CCTV footage from the Tatarpur area to trace Rakesh’s last known movements, but have not released any official statements about the case. With no location, no new leads, and a student still missing, the family’s anxiety continues to mount.
