Ghee, toothpaste, or oil... If your eyes burn from a firecracker, don't resort to home remedies; you could lose your vision.

Every year during Diwali, countless children and adults suffer serious injuries due to firecracker-related accidents. Eye injuries are particularly dangerous.

Diwali is India's biggest and most vibrant festival. The colorful lights, the glow of diyas, the aroma of sweets, and the laughter of children make the atmosphere special. But this joyous atmosphere also harbors some dangers that, if ignored, can instantly turn the joy of the festival into sorrow.

Every year during Diwali, countless children and adults suffer serious injuries due to firecracker-related accidents. Eye injuries are particularly dangerous, as they can sometimes lead to permanent blindness. Furthermore, in recent years, the use of laser pointers and brightly lit toys has also increased, which can slowly damage children's eyes without causing any noise. So, let's explore how to protect children's eyes during Diwali amidst the noise of firecrackers and laser lights.

How to protect children's eyes from firecrackers this Diwali

Every year, especially around Diwali, doctors treat a large number of serious cases, more than half of which are serious injuries caused by firecrackers. Many of these children suffer eye irritation or burns, reduced vision, and in some cases, even complete loss. In one case, firecracker powder entered a child's eye, causing severe burns to the skin and inner parts around the eye. Family members applied ghee to the eye, which worsened the condition.

Never apply these things to your eyes.

In case of a firecracker accident, never apply home remedies like ghee, toothpaste, butter, or oil. This can increase irritation and infection. Experts advise that if a firecracker injures the eye, avoid touching or rubbing the eye or rinsing it with water, as this can cause deeper irritation. Do not use eye drops without consulting a doctor; gently cover the eye with a clean cloth or eye pad. See a doctor immediately.

How to protect children's eyes this Diwali amid laser lights

Laser lights and laser pointers available today are very appealing to children. According to experts, when children focus on each other's eyes, it can cause permanent damage to the retina. They can even cause vision loss, even if the injury isn't visible externally. Therefore, explain to children that these are not just toys to play with, and avoid giving them such toys.

What to do to protect your eyes

Have children wear safety glasses when standing near fireworks or flickering lights. Recommend wearing a face shield or visor. Always keep children under adult supervision when lighting fireworks. Fireworks can burn not only the eyes but also the face, hands, and clothes. Therefore, avoid wearing loose or synthetic clothing while lighting fireworks. Wear tight cotton clothing and shoes to protect the feet.
