Pakistani artists enjoy immense popularity not just in their homeland but also in India, particularly singers whose voices have captivated audiences across borders. However, success hasn’t come easy for many of them. Just like several Indian singers who have faced struggles in their careers, some Pakistani singers have also fought against adversity to reach where they are today. One such inspiring story is that of Atif Aslam.
A Voice That Touched Millions
Atif Aslam is one of the most beloved Pakistani singers, with a fan base that extends far beyond his country’s borders. His soulful voice has set him apart, earning him fame in both Bollywood and the Pakistani entertainment industry. In addition to singing, he has also ventured into acting and Pakistani dramas. As the celebrated singer marks his birthday today, let’s take a look at his incredible journey.
A Journey Marked by Struggles
Born on March 12, 1983, in Wazirabad, Pakistan, into a Punjabi Muslim family, Atif Aslam did not achieve success overnight. He worked tirelessly to carve a niche for himself in the music industry. A bright student, Atif passed his 10th grade at just 14 years old, making him one of the youngest in his batch. He completed his early education at Kimberly High School, Lahore, before moving to Rawalpindi in 1991 for further studies.
Interestingly, music was not Atif’s first passion—he initially aspired to become a cricketer and even dreamed of representing Pakistan on the international stage. Singing was not a part of his plans until a friend recognized his talent. It was only after receiving encouragement from those around him that Atif discovered the true potential of his voice. This newfound realization eventually led him to discuss his ambitions with his family.
The Making of His First Song
Coming from a middle-class background, Atif faced financial challenges in pursuing his passion. According to IMDB Trivia, he was a member of Pakistan’s popular 'Jal' band and wanted to record his first song, "Aadat." However, financial constraints made it difficult for him. Determined to achieve his goal, he took on various jobs, including driving cars, and managed to save up PKR 15,000. With this money, he recorded "Aadat," a song that would change the course of his life.
A Breakthrough in Bollywood
Atif Aslam’s Bollywood journey began when filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt gave him his first break in 2005. His song "Woh Lamhe" from the film Zeher became an instant hit, earning him the IIFA Award for Best Playback Singer. This success opened the doors to Bollywood, where he went on to deliver multiple chartbusters, including:
- "Pehli Nazar Mein" (Race)
- "Tu Jaane Na" (Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani)
- "Tere Sang Yaara" (Rustom)
- "Jeena Jeena" (Badlapur)
In addition to his music career, Atif also made his acting debut in 2011 with the Pakistani film Bol.
A Happy Personal Life
Atif Aslam tied the knot with Sara Bharwana in 2013, and the couple is blessed with two children. Despite his success, Atif remains humble and continues to mesmerize fans with his melodious voice, proving that dedication and hard work can turn dreams into reality.
