Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar's health has suddenly deteriorated. He has been admitted to the All India Institute of Ayurvedic Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. Jagdeep Dhankhar is 74 years old and has experienced several prior health issues. 

 

Officials said that on January 10, Dhankhar fainted twice in the washroom and was taken to AIIMS Delhi. Doctors recommended Jagdeep Dhankhar be admitted for further examination, and an MRI scan was also ordered. 

When did Jagdeep Dhankhar faint?

Jagdeep Dhankhar has fainted several times before, including in the Rann of Kutch, Uttarakhand, Kerala, and Delhi. He attended public events in these places as Vice President. He also resigned from the post of Vice President on July 21, citing health reasons.

Resigned on the first day of the monsoon session

The monsoon session of Parliament began on July 21, 2025. Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar presided over the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha during the day as Chairman. That same night, Dhankhar's resignation was posted on the Vice President's official account. He cited his health as the reason. The opposition and many political analysts questioned his sudden resignation, stating that it appeared to be due to some other reason than his health. 

Have written a letter to the government for housing

Just a few days ago, news broke that former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar had not received a government residence even five months after his resignation. A few close associates revealed this information. On August 22nd, he wrote a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs requesting the official residence reserved for former Vice Presidents. 

What facilities does the former Vice President get?  

The former Vice President receives several benefits from the Government of India, including a pension of ₹200,000 per month, a Type 8 bungalow, a personal secretary, an additional personal secretary, a personal assistant, a doctor, and four personal assistants, including a nursing officer.
