The moment arrived during the 24th match of IPL 2025 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, when Kohli smashed a towering six over long-on off DC captain Axar Patel. With that hit, his boundary count reached 1000 — comprising 721 fours and 279 sixes. The Bengaluru crowd erupted in celebration as their hometown hero broke yet another record.

Notably, with 279 sixes, Kohli also surpassed Chris Gayle’s record of 127 sixes at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, now becoming the batter with the most sixes on this ground.

Most Boundaries in IPL History: Kohli Tops the List

Kohli is now second only to Shikhar Dhawan in terms of fours, and third in six-hitting behind Chris Gayle (357) and Rohit Sharma (282).

Another Milestone Awaits

The RCB ace is also closing in on becoming just the second batsman in T20 history to score 100 half-centuries, a feat only David Warner (99 fifties) has achieved so far.

DC's KL Rahul Steals the Match

Despite Kohli’s record, it was KL Rahul’s unbeaten 93 off 53 balls that led Delhi Capitals to a thrilling comeback victory. Chasing 164, DC were struggling at 58/4 before Rahul and Tristan Stubbs (38* off 23) stitched a record 111-run partnership for the fifth wicket — the highest in DC's history at that position. Their effort took the Capitals home with 13 balls to spare, sealing the win in 17.5 overs.
