EPFO Passbook Online: How to Check EPF Balance and Download Member Passbook via Portal, UMANG App, SMS

The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is one of the most important savings schemes for salaried employees in India. Managed by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), this fund acts as a long-term financial safety net where both the employer and employee contribute a portion of the salary every month.

Since many private sector organisations do not offer pension schemes, the EPF system helps employees build a retirement fund over time. Because of this, it is important for workers to regularly check their EPF account balance, contribution history, and withdrawal records.

To make this process easier, EPFO allows members to download their EPFO passbook online through several digital platforms. The passbook contains a detailed record of deposits made by both the employee and employer, along with transaction dates and current account balance.

Members can access their EPF passbook through the EPFO member portal, the UMANG mobile app, and even by using SMS or missed call services.

However, before accessing these services, users must ensure that their Universal Account Number (UAN) is activated and linked with their mobile number.

What Is an EPFO Passbook?

The EPFO member passbook works like a digital statement for your provident fund account. It records every transaction made in your EPF account, including:

  • Monthly employee contributions
  • Employer contributions
  • Interest credited by EPFO
  • Withdrawals made from the account
  • Total EPF balance

By downloading the passbook regularly, employees can monitor whether their employer is depositing the correct contribution and track the growth of their retirement savings.
