If you don't look fresh even after getting up in the morning, taking a bath and getting ready, then your whole mood gets spoiled. Many times this happens because we have a complaint of heaviness or puffiness in our eyes and face. Let's know about its causes and treatment.

If you often see swelling around your face or eyes as soon as you wake up in the morning, then taking it lightly can be dangerous for your health. Many people ignore it thinking it to be the effect of lack of sleep, eating late at night or fatigue, but frequent swelling in the face or eyes can also be a sign of a serious disease.
This swelling of the face sometimes indicates a problem hidden inside the body. Allergy, thyroid disorder, kidney failure or liver problem can also be the cause of facial swelling. Let us understand what can be the reasons behind swelling in the face and eyes in the morning and when should you be alert. Dr. Puleen Kumar of the Medicine Department at RML Hospital has told about this.
1. Disturbance in kidney function- When the kidney does not function properly, the extra fluid and toxins present in the body cannot get out. Its effect is visible on the face and around the eyes. Swelling on the face in the morning can be the first sign of any hidden kidney disease.
2. Thyroid problems (hypothyroidism)- Hypothyroidism i.e. lack of thyroid hormone can also cause facial swelling. In this condition, metabolism slows down and fluid retention increases in the body, due to which the eyes and face look swollen in the morning.
4. Liver related problems- When the liver does not function properly, protein metabolism gets disturbed, due to which water starts accumulating in the body. Its effect is first seen on the face, eyes and feet.
What to do to reduce swelling of face/eyes?
-Eat light food before sleeping and do not take too much salt.
-Drink enough water so that the body keeps getting detoxed.
– Massage your face with ice.
– Take adequate sleep, exercise during the day till you sweat (according to your body capacity).
-If there is swelling every morning then get a blood test, kidney function test (KFT), thyroid profile and liver function test (LFT) done.
Consult a doctor and do not take medicines on your own.
Ignoring the morning swelling in the face or eyes repeatedly can cost you dearly. If the body is showing some changes then it should be understood. If this problem persists then do not ignore it and get it checked immediately. With timely examination and treatment, you can avoid serious diseases.
