Shrikant Shinde News: Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde said that our party has always opposed joining hands with Congress, even Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb was against Congress.

Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde on Wednesday (January 07, 2026) said that it is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s job to consider its alliance with AIMIM or Congress, but his party will continue to oppose Congress. After the municipal elections held last month, the ruling BJP formed an alliance with its arch-rival Congress and Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) under the banner of 'Ambernath Vikas Aghadi' to take over the leadership of the Ambernath Municipal Council in Thane district, sidelining ally Shiv Sena.
The BJP also formed a similar alliance with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and other parties in the Akot Municipal Council in Akola district. Speaking to reporters, Shrikant Shinde said that Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had rebelled against the party leadership over the 2022 alliance of the undivided Shiv Sena with the Congress.
We have always opposed joining hands with Congress – Shrikant Shinde.
He added, "It's up to the BJP to decide whether to form an alliance with the AIMIM or the Congress in Ambernath. We have always opposed joining hands with the Congress, which is why Eknath Shinde rebelled against this trend. Even Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb was opposed to the Congress."
BJP reaches an agreement with Congress and NCP in Ambernath
The Shiv Sena MP also said, "Our opposition to the Congress has been there in the past and will continue in the future." Shrikant Shinde is the son of Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The Ambernath Municipal Council is part of his Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency. The BJP reached a post-election agreement with the Congress and NCP in the 60-member Ambernath Municipal Council and secured a majority of 31 seats, while the Shiv Sena is the largest party with 27 members.
Congress took action
The Congress on Wednesday (January 7) suspended all its 12 newly elected councillors and the block president in Ambernath from the party for allegedly aligning with the BJP.
