Delhi to Get Its First World-Class Ice Skating Rink in Dwarka: Here’s What Makes It Special

Delhi is all set to welcome a one-of-a-kind sporting destination — its very first world-class ice skating rink. For the people of the capital, this marks the beginning of a new era of recreational and sporting experiences that go beyond the usual parks and malls.

This state-of-the-art ice rink will be built in Dwarka, one of the fastest-developing areas in Delhi. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has finalized the contractor, and construction is expected to begin shortly. Once completed, this international-standard facility will offer Delhites a chance to experience the thrill of ice skating, right in their own city — no need to travel to hill stations or abroad for the experience.

Prime Location in Dwarka

The upcoming ice skating rink will be located at the Cloverleaf area within the Dwarka Sports Complex. This location has been strategically selected for its excellent connectivity. It’s situated near major routes like the Dwarka Expressway, Urban Extension Road, and in close proximity to the IGI Airport tunnel. This ensures convenient access for both local residents and visitors from other parts of Delhi and NCR.

World-Class Infrastructure

Spread across a massive area of 4,200 square meters, the facility will be developed in alignment with international ice sports standards. The skating rink itself will measure 60 meters by 30 meters — matching professional dimensions used in global competitions. Whether you're an amateur, enthusiast, or professional athlete, this rink is designed to cater to all levels of skaters.

A Climate-Controlled Indoor Experience

Given Delhi's scorching summers, the rink will be a fully climate-controlled indoor facility, offering a cool and refreshing escape even during peak heatwaves. This means you won’t have to wait for winter to enjoy ice skating. The temperature inside the rink will be maintained throughout the year, allowing visitors to enjoy an icy experience anytime.

Who Will Build and Operate the Project?

The DDA has entrusted the construction and long-term operation of the project to a specialized agency. The selected agency will develop the rink in partnership with an international firm, either through a Joint Venture (JV) or Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) model. The same operator will also manage and maintain the facility for 15 years after completion. This long-term commitment is expected to ensure high standards of upkeep and service.

Boosting Winter Sports in Delhi

Until now, Delhi lacked the infrastructure for winter sports such as ice hockey, figure skating, or curling. With this rink, athletes and sports enthusiasts will finally have access to a dedicated venue for training, tournaments, and events. The DDA aims to create a platform where sports like ice skating can be promoted among youth and aspiring athletes in the region.

Future Plans for More Adventures

This is not the only exciting venture in the pipeline. DDA is also planning to launch hot air balloon rides from four different locations across Delhi — Asita, Baansera, Yamuna Sports Complex, and the CWG Village. These initiatives are part of a broader vision to transform Delhi into a hub of unique and adventurous experiences.

This entire concept — from idea to execution — is being closely monitored and promoted under the guidance of Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena. According to him, the capital city deserves more than conventional entertainment options. The goal is to offer people something refreshing and exhilarating, breaking away from the monotony of daily life.

Final Word

With the introduction of Delhi's first international-standard ice skating rink, the city is stepping into a new era of recreation and sports. This landmark project promises not only to entertain but also to inspire a new generation of athletes in winter sports — right from the heart of India.
