Delhi: Drunk BMW Driver Hits 6 in Old Rajendra Nagar, UPSC Aspirants Among Injured

A serious accident occurred in Delhi's Old Rajendra Nagar area on Tuesday evening when a speeding BMW, allegedly driven by an intoxicated man, ran over six pedestrians walking on the footpath. Among the injured were five UPSC aspirants living in the area and one passerby.

The incident took place around 4 PM on Baba Bazar Road. The driver, identified as 45-year-old Prem Kumar, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and driving at high speed when he lost control of the vehicle.

Victims Hospitalized, One in Critical Condition

All six victims—Lokesh, Baby, Shivam, Harshita, Stephen, and Vipul—were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Five of them were discharged after receiving first aid, while one remains in critical condition and is under special medical observation.

Accused Caught by Locals, Arrested by Police

Locals who witnessed the crash managed to stop the driver from fleeing and handed him over to the police. His vehicle was seized, and an FIR has been registered under hit-and-run and related charges. Preliminary tests confirmed the presence of alcohol, and a blood sample has been sent for further analysis.

Second BMW Car Seized

In a surprising twist, while police were handling the situation, another BMW passed by the scene at high speed. Students who noticed it raised an alarm. Police intercepted this second car, discovered an illegal silencer and beer bottles inside, and seized it as well.

The case is under investigation, and Delhi Police have assured strict action against those found guilty.
