Delays Periods: Nowadays, most girls have started getting periods before time. There are many disadvantages to this. Many studies have said that early onset of menstruation poses a risk of many serious diseases. This increases the risk of diseases like breast cancer, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity manifold. But now a new study has found that if healthy eating is included in the childhood of girls, then periods come late and the risk of many diseases can be avoided. On the other hand, girls who have a bad diet in childhood start getting periods early.

Relation between healthy diet and age of menstruation
According to the report published in the Human Reproduction Journal, researchers have drawn this conclusion after studying more than 7,500 children. This study has been done under the Growing Up Today study. The study found that for girls who had nutritious and healthy food in childhood, their menstruation time used to start later than normal. That is, it used to come late. To find this out in the girls included in the study, the researchers used two special dietary indices. For this, an Alternative Healthy Eating Index was divided into AHEI and Empirical Dietary Inflammation Pattern EDIP.
In the first index i.e. AHEI, higher marks were given to those girls who ate healthy things like green vegetables, whole grains, and pulses, while lower marks were given to those girls who ate red meat, junk food, and high salt items. The EDIP index took into account those foods that increase inflammation in the body, such as red and processed meat, sugar-filled drinks, and refined grains.
A healthy diet has a good effect on the whole life.
The study found that girls who had the highest AHEI score got menstruation much later than the time, while those who had a higher EDIP score got periods much earlier than the time.
Study author Professor Holly Harris said that BMI and height were not included in this result. In this, only food was measured and the time of menstruation was ascertained. He also said that early onset of menstruation increases the risk of many serious diseases in later life. Therefore, it is very important to provide healthy food to children and adolescents. For this, attention needs to be given to healthy eating, especially in schools. A healthy diet not only improves weight and height but also improves health in adolescence.

Professor Harris said that a healthy diet should include fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, pulses, and omega-3-rich fish. Along with this, the amount of red and processed meat, sugary drinks, refined flour and salt should be reduced. These habits are beneficial for everyone at any stage of age. This study also indicates that adopting healthy food in adolescence has a positive effect not only for that time but also on lifelong health later on. More research is needed on this subject so that these findings can be confirmed in different population groups.
