Death of Dacoit Kusum Nain: 15 boatmen were lined up and shot, people's eyes were taken out

Notorious dacoit Kusuma Nain died during treatment at KGMU. She was suffering from TB and was serving sentence in Etawah jail for 20 years. After postmortem, the body was handed over to the family members. Kusuma was an associate of dacoit Fakkad and had killed 15 boatmen in 1984. On her death, the relatives of the victims lit ghee lamps and distributed laddus.

Jagran Correspondent, Lucknow. Dacoit Kusum Nain, who was admitted to King George Medical University (KGMU) for several days, died during treatment on Saturday evening. After conducting the post-mortem, the police handed over the body to the policemen from Etawah jail administration. After this, the jail administration will hand over Kusum's body to her family members so that the last rites can be performed.

 

According to the information, Kusuma, who was serving a sentence in Etawah district jail for about 20 years, was suffering from TB (Tuberculosis). Earlier, she was undergoing treatment in jail. When her condition worsened, the jail staff admitted her to Etawah district hospital, where after giving first aid, the doctors referred Kusuma to Saifai Medical University.

 

When there was no relief, a few days ago the doctors referred her to the medical college, where Kusum died during treatment. The police, who reached after getting information from the doctors, sent the body for postmortem. On Sunday, a panel of doctors conducted the postmortem of the body under videography.

Police said that at the time of his death, his step son, relative Pradeep and the lawyer who was defending his case were present with him. After all the formalities are completed, the body will be handed over to them, after which the last rites will be performed.

Kusuma Nain, a resident of Sirsaklar in Jalaun district, was a close associate of dacoit Ramasare alias Fakkad, who was a synonym of terror in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Her entire gang surrendered at Rawatpura outpost of Damoh police station in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh in June 2004. Kusuma's gang had committed more than 200 crimes in UP and 35 crimes in Madhya Pradesh.

After Phoolan Devi's Behmai incident in May 1981, Kusum took revenge for it in the year 1984. She lined up 15 boatmen of Mai Asta village and shot them dead and set their houses on fire. Not only this, in 1996, in Bareh area of ​​Etawah district, Kusuma Nain gouged out the eyes of boatmen named Santosh and Raj Bahadur and left them alive.

 

Due to Kusum's cruelty, the dacoits started calling her the lioness of Yamuna-Chambal. Kusum used to treat the people she kidnapped very badly. She used to burn their bodies by taking out the burning wood from the stove. She used to tie them in chains and hit them with a whip.

Santosh, a resident of village Aseva, said that Kamta Prasad was murdered by Ramakant, Mohan and Pappu, nephews of dacoit Fakkad Baba alias Ram Asare. He was an eyewitness to this case. Fearing that his nephews would be punished due to their testimony, Fakkad had announced to teach them a lesson.

 

Around 10 pm on 15 December 1996, around 15 dacoits led by Kusum Nain surrounded his house. The dacoits took him and his friend Raj Bahadur, who was sleeping at home, along with six other people from the village hostage and took them to a ravine 4 km away from the village. There the dacoits beat them brutally. After this, they gouged out his and Raj Bahadur's eyes with a sharp weapon.

 

The remaining four companions somehow took them to the village. Raj Bahadur's brother Mahalwan Singh lodged a report of the incident in Ayana police station. Both the friends who lost their eyes while fighting against the dacoits say that the dacoits have wreaked havoc on the ravines. Due to which the ravines have not been able to recover till date. Now they are distributing laddus and lighting ghee lamps.
