Fatty liver cases are increasing rapidly in the country. The government has taken major steps to prevent this disease. The purpose of these guidelines is to give information to people about fatty liver and promote a healthy lifestyle. Now this disease is called Metabolic Dysfunction Associated Fatty Liver Disease (MAFLD), which was earlier called Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). This happens when excess fat gets accumulated in the liver. It is related to diseases like obesity, diabetes and high cholesterol.

The Health Minister said that under the National Non-Communicable Disease Control Program, healthy eating, daily exercise, weight control and avoiding excess sugar and fat are essential to prevent and manage fatty liver. States have been told that doctors should examine as per the guidelines and provide proper treatment to the patient if needed.

The second study was conducted by ICMR. It looked at the risk of liver disease, diabetes and blood pressure in several villages of Rajasthan. It was found that about 37 percent of the people had fatty liver, and this problem was more common among men. The risk was found to be higher in those who ate fast food once a week.
