The risk of dehydration is higher in humid weather because the body loses water quickly. Know the symptoms, causes, and easy ways to prevent dehydration in humidity.

High humidity health effects: Summer and rainy season is often very troublesome. Sticky humidity and heavy sweating make the body tired as soon as you go out. Many times people think that only heat causes dehydration, but the truth is that the body loses as much water in humidity as it does in summer. In this article we will understand why there is a lack of water in the body during humidity and how to avoid it?
The only difference between humidity and extreme heat is that in humidity, the sweat does not dry out quickly from outside and we realize it late. This is the reason why the risk of dehydration increases even more in humid weather. Many times people ignore thirst, thinking that everything is normal. But the real game starts from here. If the initial signs are understood, then big trouble can be avoided.
Why does dehydration occur more in humidity?
Dr Ajit Jain of the Medicine Department at Delhi's GTB Hospital explains that when the weather is humid, that is, when there is moisture in the air, the body sweats a lot but the body does not get cool. Normally when sweat comes, it evaporates and cools the body. But humid air is already so full of moisture that sweat does not dry easily. At the same time, water and electrolyte (Sodium and Potassium) are released from the body rapidly. If this deficiency is not met, then there is a lack of water in the body, that is, dehydration.
What are the early signs of dehydration?
1 The first symptom is feeling tired frequently. Whether you are sitting in the office or resting at home, if there is a lack of water in the body, then the energy starts decreasing.
2 The second symptom is frequent headaches. In humidity, water and electrolyte (sodium and potassium) are released from the body rapidly, which leads to deficiency of minerals and dizziness or headache.
3 Third sign is dry lips and throat- If you are feeling thirsty again and again in the humid weather, feel like drinking water or your tongue and throat feel dry, then this can also be an alarm of dehydration.
When do serious symptoms of dehydration appear?
But the real cause for concern is when the colour of the urine becomes dark yellow. This is a direct indication that the body is trying to save water. Some people also have problems like increased heart rate and muscle cramps in this season, which clearly indicates that there is an imbalance of electrolytes in the body.
What to drink to avoid dehydration?
- First of all, don't just wait until you feel thirsty.
- You should keep drinking water every 1-2 hours
