Covid Vaccine: According to research by UCLA, patients who were vaccinated against Covid and developed kidney-related illnesses during corona were in better condition than those without the vaccine.

Covid Vaccine is Beneficial for Kidney Disease: The University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) released a new research report on Friday (June 13). According to this research, patients who were vaccinated with Covid and suffered from acute kidney injury or kidney related disease during corona, their condition was better than patients without the vaccine.
There is no need for dialysis after getting the vaccine
Researchers found in their research that patients who had already received the corona vaccine were less likely to need dialysis after being discharged from the hospital. They were more likely to survive than patients who did not receive the vaccine.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is quite common in people infected with corona. According to research, about 46 percent of patients may have this problem. This disease can reduce the functioning of the kidney, if it becomes more serious, the patient may also need dialysis. Till now doctors have not fully understood what effect it has on the future life of patients who have both corona and AKI.
The risk of death is also reduced after getting the vaccine
The results of this research, published in the peer-reviewed journal Kidney Medicine, show that getting the COVID vaccine reduces the risk of loss of strength and also reduces the risk of death in patients who suffered AKI during corona.
“The COVID vaccine is a much-needed intervention that can reduce the risk of serious complications in patients with AKI,” said lead author Dr. Nilofer Nobakht, associate professor of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
Why is it beneficial to get the Covid vaccine?
Nobakht further said, "People should talk to their doctor and understand why getting the Covid vaccine is beneficial. Because getting the vaccine reduces the risk of needing dialysis. This is an important step towards a longer and better life."
The researchers analysed nearly 3,500 patients who were hospitalised for Covid between March 1, 2020 and March 30, 2022. Of those patients, 972 had AKI. Of these, 411 patients (about 42%) had not been vaccinated, and 467 patients (about 48%) had received at least two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
What is CRRT?
Nobakht found that 65 non-vaccinated patients (15.8 per cent) needed a special type of dialysis called renal replacement therapy (CRRT), while only 51 vaccinated patients (10.9 per cent) needed CRRT. Let us tell you that CRRT is a dialysis procedure that is given to very critically ill patients, especially in the ICU.
The research also found that patients who were not vaccinated were 2.56 times more likely to require CRRT after being discharged from hospital, had a 5.54 times higher risk of dying in hospital, and a 4.78 times higher risk of death compared to vaccinated patients.
