 India's active Covid-19 cases crossed the 4,000 mark on Tuesday, within just three days of breaching the 3,000 mark, with Kerala, Maharashtra and Gujarat reporting the highest number of infections in the last 24 hours, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). Kerala reported 1,416 new Covid-19 cases, Maharashtra 494 and Gujarat 397 infections in the last 24 hours, according to health ministry data on Tuesday. India saw a rise of 65 cases in the last 24 hours, while 512 people were discharged or cured during the same period, according to health ministry data.

The country also reported five Covid-19 deaths between Monday and Tuesday, one each in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal and two in Maharashtra. According to the Health Ministry, the Covid-related death in Kerala was of an 80-year-old man who was suffering from severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, diabetes, hypertension and coronary artery disease. In Maharashtra, it was a 70-year-old woman suffering from diabetes and a 73-year-old woman suffering from diabetes (diabetes) and (hypertension) HTN. The Covid patient who died in Tamil Nadu was a 69-year-old woman suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus and Parkinson's disease, while in West Bengal it was a 43-year-old woman suffering from acute coronary syndrome, septic shock and acute kidney injury.

What is the situation in other states of the country

Apart from Kerala, Maharashtra and Gujarat, Delhi, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh also reported a significant rise in Covid cases, with the number of infections in triple digits. In the last 24 hours, 393 cases were reported in Delhi, 372 in West Bengal, 311 in Karnataka, 215 in Tamil Nadu and 138 in Uttar Pradesh. The number of active Covid-19 cases in India crossed the 3,000 mark on Saturday and rose to 3,395, with Kerala reporting the highest number of infections, followed by Maharashtra and Delhi.

The total number of active Covid-19 cases in India on Monday stood at 3,961, with 203 new cases and four fresh deaths reported from across the country, according to official data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
