Suicide in Gujarat: A tragic incident has come to light in Surat, Gujarat, where an eighth class student from Godadara area committed suicide at her home. The incident has sparked outrage in the area as the student's family alleges that she was prevented from appearing in the examination due to non-payment of school fees. According to a report published in the New Indian Express, the family claims that the school punished the little girl by making her stand outside the classroom all day, which made her upset and scared. After that, she stopped going to school. On January 21, when her parents had gone to work, she took her own life.

What is the father's allegation?

The girl's father Raju Khatik said, "When my daughter was not allowed to sit for the exam in school, she was made to stand outside the class. When she came home, she was crying and she told me that she was not allowed to take the exam because she had not paid the fees. I told her that I would pay the fees next month." After this incident, she refused to go to school.

How did the school respond?

In response to these allegations, the school administrator Mukeshbhai flatly denied any wrongdoing and called the claims baseless. He said, "We came to know about this incident only this morning. The school has no connection with this incident and it is wrong to claim that he committed suicide due to fees - it is completely baseless." Mukeshbhai further clarified, "The school does not inform students about the fees. Discussions about the outstanding amount are done only with the parents. We give the details of the fees, fix the date of payment and contact the parents directly if there is no response. This incident has no connection with the school.

What did the school teacher say?

School teacher Ranjanben Ahir also gave her opinion on this matter. She said, "On the 8th, I told the student that her fees had not been paid. When we tried to contact her parents, they did not pick up the phone. She asked me to call again, so I called, but they still did not pick up the phone. I told her to take the exam and she took the exam." Ahir further said, "There is no connection between the fees and the incident of the 21st.

Did she commit suicide because of her family?

The teacher said that it seems that the girl had a fight with someone in the neighbourhood and her family locked her in a room and possibly tortured her. The education department and the police have started investigating the case to find out the truth.
