Chaitra Navratri 2025: Should one get a hair cut during Navratri or not?

Chaitra Navratri 2025: Cutting hair during Navratri is considered taboo for religious, spiritual and scientific reasons. This is a time of purification, energy balancing and meditation, which brings the blessings of the Goddess.

Chaitra Navratri 2025: Navratri, the nine-day festival of worship of Goddess Durga, is a symbol of spiritual purification and self-restraint. During this time many traditions and rules are followed, one of which is not cutting hair. Let us know the religious, spiritual and scientific reasons behind this:

Religious reasons- In Hinduism, the days of Navratri are considered extremely sacred. It is believed that during this time the body should be kept in a natural state, so that the blessings of Goddess Durga can be obtained. Cutting hair and nails is considered an impure act, because it can violate the purity of the body.

Spiritual reason- Navratri is a time for self-purification and meditation. By not cutting hair and nails, a person can stay away from material desires and focus on inner sadhana, which helps in spiritual advancement.

Scientific reason- The weather is changeable during Navratri. By not cutting hair and nails, the energy of the body remains balanced and the risk of infection is reduced. Cutting hair exposes body parts, which can increase the risk of diseases.
