Ashwagandha In Cancer: Ashwagandha is the most powerful herb of Ayurveda. It is used to cure major diseases. But can it cause cancer? Top doctors of the country are doing research to find out this.

Cancer is a fatal disease, whose treatment is very difficult, long-term and expensive. In such a situation, it is very difficult to believe the claim of completely curing it with any herb. It is believed that Ashwagandha can prove helpful in curing cancer. Although it is a powerful herb of Ayurveda, there is no concrete evidence on how suitable it is for cancer.
In such a situation, Tata Memorial Center (TMC) built in Mumbai is preparing to grow more than 500 herbs like turmeric, ashwagandha in the farm to know the role of medicinal plants in the fight against cancer. TMC is also going to build a 100-bed research cum hospital, where the effect of these medicinal plants will be tested in cases of cancer. It was started in 2028 by Dr. Vikram Gota with the test of ashwagandha in cancer. Seeing its positive result, TMC is preparing to do large scale testing to understand the role of herbs in eliminating cancer.
What was the result of Dr. Gota's study
Dr. Gota, who is a professor and head of clinical pharmacology at TMC's Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) in Navi Mumbai, has been studying the safety and effectiveness of withaferin-A, an active compound present in ashwagandha, for a long time. The results of which showed a possibility of reducing the mortality rate by 50 percent in bone marrow transplant patients. Not only this, from the research paper prepared by Dr. Gota and his team, it can be understood that ashwagandha and turmeric are anti-cancer.
Infrastructure built at a cost of Rs 300 crore
TMC has set up a Rs 300 crore Integrative Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ICTREC) in Khopoli to test hundreds of other medicinal plants for cancer treatment. More than 500 medicinal plants will be grown on 20 acres of land. With this, TMC will become the only cancer hospital in the country where medicinal plants will be grown, preserved and used as medicine for cancer treatment.
